Metro Core Solution for Wireline Carriers

Introduction

Metro Core Networking Solutions

Metro core or interoffice facility (IOF) rings interconnect edge rings and deliver traffic to service points of presence (PoPs). Transport is the business of the IOF metro core network; therefore, the emphasis is on capacity, efficient service aggregation, and reliability. The business challenge to Wireline Carriers is in taking advantage of existing fiber infrastructure to increase transport capacity and maximize bandwidth efficiency.

With Cisco Optical Solutions, Wireline Carriers can leverage the hybrid nature of a single platform, the ONS 15454, capable of being configured as a Multiservice Provisioning Platforms (MSPP) and as a Multiservice Transport Platforms (MSTP), to cost effectively address their needs without having to choose multiple point products.

Cisco MSTP intelligent dense wavelength division multiplexing (iDWDM) solution delivers the industry's first true, pragmatic approach to wavelength switching in metro networks - any wavelength, any location. Cisco's reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM) technology delivers dynamic and automated signal conditioning along with sophisticated power control algorithms providing levels of operational efficiency and flexibility previously unattainable.

Support for at least 32 wavelengths per fiber pair, are available for use at network concentration points. Used in tandem with Cisco's market leading MSPPs at the metro edge, Wireline Carriers can deliver much greater bandwidth with more service offerings than ever before.
